1.
Name: Arnaldo Aranda
Present club: Mineros F. C.
Born: 27/02/1982
Position: Defender
Former clubs: None
Honours: U-23
Comments: He is a great player. He usually plays on the left. He is a
great ball handler and has a lot of projection; he also does a great job
defensively. He played in the U-23 championship, and was the biggest surprise
of the tournament. He will probably get his cap soon, but the senior team has
great players for his position, Jorge Rojas and Jobanny Rivero.
2.
Name: Evelio Hernandez
Present club: Independiente (Arg)
Born: 16/06/1984
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: His nickname is “El Raton” which means “The Mouse”, because of
his small height, but this is easily forgotten after a few minutes of play and
a brief look at his style and technique. He is one of the smartest players
there ever existed in Venezuela. I see a huge future ahead of him, and so do
all Venezuelan coaches who are trying to sign him for their teams.
3.
Name: Oswaldo Vizcarrondo
Present club: Caracas F. C.
Born: 31/05/1984
Position: Defender
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20, U-23
Comments: Central defender that started to be known after the success of
the U-17 Venezuelan team that reached the fourth place in the South American
Championship. Vizcarrondo is a serious defender, of great strength and great
aerial game, due to his height. This year he had the responsibility of
replacing the former central defender of Caracas, Rey, and did an incredible
job helping his team to win the championship.
4.
Name: Giancarlo Maldonado
Present club: River Plate (Uru)
Born: 29/06/1982
Position: Striker
Former clubs: None
Honours: U-23
Comments: Fast, strong and a great goalscorer, he’s having a lot of
success in Uruguay and has woken up interest in many Venezuelan clubs. He
played on the U-23 Venezuelan team in the last South American championship and
scored a couple of times.
5.
Name: Andres Rouga
Present club: Caracas F. C.
Born: 02/03/1982
Position: Defender
Former clubs: None
Honours: U-20, U-23, 2 caps
Comments: He is one of the biggest promises in Venezuelan football. He
is a very confident defender with a great left leg. Knows where to be at the
right moment and this makes him intercept many key passes and save his team at
least once every game. He has been called for International duty many times but
has only seen action twice. Richard Paez the Venezuelan manager is very fond of
him.
6.
Name: Vicente Suanno
Present club: Deportivo Italchacao
Born: 01/01/1983
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: Along with Engelberth Briceño he is one of the most important
players for the future of Deportivo Italchacao. A defensive midfielder but with
great creative power, Suanno possesses a superb intelligence. Italchacao,
although they couldn’t conquer the championship, was the best team of this
year’s tournament and it was because of young players like him.
7.
Name: Engelberth Briceño
Present club: Deportivo Italchacao
Born: 1984
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: His nickname is “Chispa” that means “Spark”; he is a great
player, with great technique and a lot of guts. His only problem is that he
has to gain more experience because he is a little bit undisciplined, but with
Italchacao’s coach he’ll probably grow up fast and become a great player very
soon.
8.
Name: Wuiswell Isea
Present club: Caracas F. C.
Born: 13/09/1982
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: Trujillanos
Honours: Youth, U-20, U-23
Comments: Wuiswell is one of the biggest talents of the Venezuelan
youth. He is easy to spot because of his incredible moves that remind players
like Denilson and Ronaldinho. He has a lot of experience including the Copa
Pre-Libertadores and a lot of minutes in the Venezuelan league. He is very fast
and likes to play freely on the field; he can sometimes manage incredible
passes that leave the other teams in ridicule.
9.
Name: Angelo Rodriguez
Present club: U. A. Tachira
Born: 22/01/1982
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: Trujillanos
Honours: Called up for the Senior Team
Comments: Angelo Rodriguez is a very complete player. He is a great
defensive midfielder that acts as a sweep in throughout the whole game. Besides
when he takes the ball he knows exactly what to do with it. He was called once
by Richard Paez but had to see the whole game from the bench. Maybe in the near
future we’ll se him in his first international game.
10.
Name: Phillipe Estevez
Present club: U. A. Maracaibo
Born: 09/12/1983
Position: Striker
Former clubs: Trujillanos, Caracas F. C.
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: Great, fast and strong striker. He has played on every
national team since he was 15. The most precious moment of his career was when
he scored the winning goal against the Argentina U-20 team (with players like
Tevez and Cavenaghi) in the South American Championship. He needs experience,
but he’s sure to acquire some in his new team Maracaibo.
11.
Name: Oswaldo Chaurant
Present club: U. A. Tachira
Born: 27/05/1983
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: He can play anywhere in the midfield, he and Evelio Hernandez
act as the souls of the youth national teams. He has a lot of strength and is
always thinking about the way to get forward. This season he has seen a lot of
games with Tachira, and has become a favourite of many fans. He has a huge
future waiting for him.
12.
Name: Cesar Gonzalez
Present club: Monagas
Born: 10/01/1982
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: Unknown
Comments: Great midfielder, he mostly plays as a winger. He has a great
combination of skill and quickness. Mostly because of him, Monagas managed to
qualify with an average team to the Copa Sudamericana. But rumour says that he’s
been linked to many bigger teams for the next season. He should be called for
the U-23 team, but for an unknown reason I’ve never seen him on any national
team.
13.
Name: Alejandro Guerra
Present club: South Korea
Born: 09/07/1985
Position: Striker
Former clubs: Caracas F. C.
Honours: Youth
Comments: He’s one of the most precious jewels in the country. With an
exquisite technique and a privileged vision of the game, this kid at the young
age of 17 already played in the senior tournament, and played a lot of minutes.
They call him Guerrita, and not so long ago he surprised the whole country with
his move to a South Korean premiership team.
14.
Name: Eduardo Sarago
Present club: Deportivo Italchacao
Born: 11/01/1982
Position: Striker
Former clubs: Caracas F. C.
Honours: None
Comments: Incredibly fast and skilful striker. With his recent move to
Deportivo Italchacao he saw a lot more minutes than he had the chance in
Caracas. He is a great football player, but he sometimes gets lost in the
field, with a basic tactics education he could become one of the best players in
Venezuela.
15.
Name: Gabriel Cichero
Present club: Wanderers (Uru)
Born: 25/04/1984
Position: Striker
Former clubs: None
Honours: U-20
Comments: Alejandro Cichero's little brother. Both he and his brother have
been gaining experience in the Uruguayan league. Alejandro is already
undisputed on the senior team, and Gabriel is winning his place on the youth
teams. He is strong and well positioned, he lacks a bit of mobility but as a
center forward he doesn’t need it that much.
16.
Name: Emilio Renteria
Present club: Levante (Spa)
Born: 09/10/1984
Position: Striker
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: He is better known as “Weah” or “El Venado” (“The Deer”).
Incredibly strong, incredibly fast but not very disciplined. Probably with the
experience gained in European Football he’ll keep getting better and gain
reputation as one of the best strikers in the country.
17.
Name: Raul Gonzalez
Present club: Deportivo Italchacao
Born: 1985
Position: Midfielder
Former clubs: None
Honours: None
Comments: Very young, but very very great football player. He plays as a
winger just like his older brother (Hector Gonzalez, Olimpo, Argentina). He’s a
bit small but with his guts and his heart he overcomes this weakness. He is
very skilful and very fast, and some people even say that he will become a
better player than his brother Hector.
18.
Name: Antonio Nunziata
Present club: Vibonese (Ita)
Born: 1983
Position: Striker
Former clubs: Caracas F. C.
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: Strong and with a great kick. He’s not very fast but with his
great technique and incredible kick he can score goals easily. He didn’t see a
lot of action in the U-20 South American Championship, but when he gets the
chance he’ll try to surprise everyone and get on the youth national shortlists.
19.
Name: Ernesto Tortolero
Present club: Mineros F. C.
Born: 1984
Position: Defender
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth, U-20
Comments: Good defender. He’s beginning to get more and more action in
his team Mineros. With their win against Union Lara they secured their place in
the first division and this will give him more minutes of experience, which is
just what he needs.
20.
Name: Alan Libeskind
Present club: Independiente (Arg)
Born: 07/01/1985
Position: Goalkeeper
Former clubs: None
Honours: Youth
Comments: Good goalkeeper, so good that he earned his place on the
Independiente’s reserve team. On his games with the youth teams he has been a
bit disappointing, but surely he will get better and become the future
goalkeeper to replace great ones like Dudamel, Angelucci and Renny Vega.
