Note: Players of 23 or under are included. Serie A only.
Andrea Caracciolo
(18/09/1981, Brescia)
Frighteningly lanky but mobile striker who has attracted the attention of the likes of Roma, Arsenal and of course, Spurs in the last 12 months. Grabbed an impressive 8 goals in 18 starts last season and arguably a better prospect than Giuseppe Sculli.
Gaetano D'Agostino
(03/06/1982, Roma)
Classy playmaker with a deadly left foot, though awfully slow. Tactically a difficult player to fit into most teams due to his style.
Cristian Zaccardo
(21/12/1981, Palermo)
He had a bit of a downer last season in contrast to the hype bubbling over the season before, but still a hardworking and versatile defender. A regular call up in the near future could be some stretch though.
Giandomenico Mesto
(25/05/1982, Reggina)
Eye-catching offensive midfielder with very tight dribbling skills and great bursts. Needs to work on the crossing and gain more composure.
Antonio Cassano
(12/07/1982, Roma)
Absurdly gifted second striker who has just about the best control of the football as you're likely to see in the universe today. Glides his way around the pitch, if only his head was screwed on properly.
Cesare Bovo
(14/01/1983, Parma)
Influential and tough defender who had a monster tournament in the European Under-21 Championship in the summer. Not particularly tall but threatening from set-pieces.
Riccardo Montolivo
(18/01/1985, Atalanta)
Effortlessly talented playmaker touted as the next Totti (or Baggio) by some corners. Always seems to have time on the ball, usually hogs and starts from the left flank.
Daniele De Rossi
(24/7/1984, Roma)
Mature central midfielder who is more of a box-to-box player than a forward (his old position) nowadays. Can be used as a creator, thus making him very much in contention for a regular spot in the national team.
Alessandro Rosina
(31/1/84, Parma)
Extremely lively midfielder who's small but skilful. Still very raw and slightly lightweight, but already one of the stars in the Under-21s.
Marco Donadel
(21/04/1983, Sampdoria)
Another Under-21 international, traditional holding midfielder, steady, unremarkable but essential. Also has a very powerful shot.
Giorgio Chiellini
(14/8/1984, Fiorentina)
Under-21 international left back who does more offensive work at times than defensive, hence comparison with the great Giacinto Facchetti, and like Facchetti, Chiellini is also rather tall. Seen by many as eventual deputy to Gianluca Zambrotta at left back.
Alberto Aquilani
(7/7/1984, Roma)
Currently used by Roma prematurely due to Olivier Dacourt's injury in central midfield. Decent distributor, though has taken time to settle into a very chaotic side.
